I was gonna do a topic on favourite books, but I don't even know my own. So you can say that too if you want.

But yeah, who're your favourite authors, and why?

Mine are kinda iffy right now, but at the moment it's -

Terry Pratchett. Nick got me into this guy's stuff, and her <3 her so much for it. I never get tired of his writing (satirical fantasy), it's really entertaining, with a perfect balance of characterisation and plot, tons of witty lines, and a really, truly awesome setting. And his kid's book are just as awesome as his adult's stuff.
I have no idea what books to recommend to you by him... for some reason, I'm partial to "The Truth", but it might be better to just take a look at his stuff and choose the one with the blurb you like the sound of most.

Chuck Palahnuik. Panic! At the Disco got me into this guy, haha. He does minimalistic shock fiction, which will not be to most peoples taste, and some of it truly disgusts me as well. But this guy has talent, undoubtably, and as sort of ethic and reason to his writing that made me respec what he was doing even after being really turned off by "Haunted".
I don't like his more recent fiction so much, and I think I'm gonna check out his biography for a break from it. And I can't wait until he releases his book with tips on minimalistic writing, his advice has helped me before. <3
Recommend books by him are "Survivor" and "Invisable Monsters", and possible "Fight Club"... I haven't actually read that one XD But you know the movie was good.

I don't know if I have a favourite author (BUT I SURE LIKE THAT EMMA MAREE URQUHART), being the book snob that I am and working my way through all the classic books I can and generally avoiding any fiction book that was written in the last 100 years.

XD I like quite a few classics, but they're always a struggle to read for me.

I like Anthony Horowitz's work - he's very good at keeping up suspense and tension, and writes great action stuff.

But for writing in general, I think Phillip Pullman is one of my favourite authors. As well as His Dark Materials (which is still a phenomenal trilogy, whether I like the themes or not), he's written a lot of good stuff, like Ruby in the Smoke, which I've just finished reading. Waiting to get Shadow in the North now.

John Grisham is another of my favourite authors 'cos I like political thrillers. And he does them well, with the right amount of court cases etc. - enough, but not enough to bore you. I really enjoyed The Broker - him telling it from the viewpoint of the criminal is a unique way of writing it.

My favourite author had difently got to be RL Stine. His books may be a little old now (not to mention the new ones are TOTALLY gay).

RL Stiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine! Oh god, I used to love his stuff. I was a total Goosebumps fangirl as a kid. XD And the TV show was awesome too.

Stine has to be the best kid's horror author ever. *fangirls* I miss the old Goosebumps days. Cry

I'm currently reading the Phantom of the Opera. I've bnever seen the film/stage show, but the book isn't half scaring me. And by scaring, I mean real 'I don't know what's going to happen next' scaring.

Oooo, how could I forget Tolkien? And Paolini's books are OK, but they are a bit cliched.

I'm honored to be listed with so many great names. ^^;; Thank you, and yes, you spelled it right.

I've never read Paver's work, I'll have to read them some time.

I've only read one Stephen King book so far, but his style is just so good. <3 I can very, very easily see him becoming a favorite, I've already taken some ideas from his style. :3

...I rofl'd, Charles. XD
