  • Triss: A group of us from the LARP society I'm part of decided to put on a role-playing convention, catering to roleplayers of all types from tabletop to LARP, so we got in a whole load of traders and people promoting their groups and stuff. There's quite a big, active RP community in the north-east, so we thought we'd tap into that. So 'Nerd East' was born! Cheesy

People all over the place are giving out awards...and I think we should too. So, I've gone to the liberty of making my own, exceedingly low budget award cermony: it's very theraputic, I recommend it, even if like me you have the memory of an amnesic goldfish...

So, for the first time!
The Pointless Awards by Nick!

Television Awards
Best New Drama:Heroes - nice obvious one to start on.
Best New Light Entertainment Drama: Kingdom - Stephen Fry wanders around as a lawyer plagued by his sister, intern and missing brother
Best Returning Drama: Doctor Who - Yep, I'm biased as anything but hey!
Best New Actor: Masi Oka - a tight battle but Masi wins it for creating two very different personas.
2nd Best New Actor: Milo Ventimiglia - Yeah well...Pathology looks good.
Best New Actress: Hayden Panetterre - I think I've spelt her name wrong but she's the queen of pretending bits of her are broken.
2nd Best New Actress: Freema Agyeman - for crying as early as episode two, and for having the guts to step ino Billie Piper's shoes.
Best Returning Actor: David Tennant - David also get's a "Well Done On Actually Being A Real Person" award for calling up Virgin radio from time to time and brightening the morning banter
Best Returning Actress: Ashley Jenson - Still good in Ugly Betty and for making me cry in the Extras Christmas Special.
Writer of the Year: Stephen Moffat - for Blink
Creator of the Year: Tim Cring - for Heroes
Book Adapt of the Year: Cranford
New Channel of the Year: Dave - Nuff said...
Retro TV Find of the Year: Whose Line Is It Anyway - you really need to see it...
Unexpected Supporting Role of the Year: Malcolm McDowell turning up as Mr Linderman
Best Show Presented by Three Middle-aged-ish Men: Top Gear - They were getting SOMETHING!

Film Awards
Film of the Year: Hot Fuzz - Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost teamed up again...and lo, it was good!
Most Anticipated Film of the Year: Pirates 3
Trashy Horror of the Year: 28 Weeks Later - a helicopter...some zombies...Hmmmm....
Comedy/Family(ish!) Drama of the Year:Run Fat Boy Run - For good use of music, and for having Dylan Moran.
Couldn't Live Up To Expectations: The Simpson's Movie - still good but...meh...
Biggest Waste of a Cinema Visit: The Reaping - just...no...

Music Awards
Best New Band: The Hoosiers - saw them live at Belladrum, and the 'Goodbye Mister A' arrived to make me dance even when I didn't really want to...
2nd Best New Band: The Fratellis - when you even sing the intro...you know you've heard it often.
Best New Solo Female: Amy McDonald - I don't know why, but I like her.
Best New Solo Male: Newton Faulkner - OK, so I only really know one of his songs, but that hair desreves an award!
Best Returning Band: The Killers - a controversial choice, but having grown up to more complicated and sophisted poetry and musical form, I think they deserve it. If they shave Flowers...for Heaven's sake man, you look like a catepiller has become attached to you...
2nd Best Returning Band: MCR - Yup, take a bow, the Black Parade is pretty damned impressive
3rd Best Returning Band: Kaiser Chiefs - OK, so Ruby was a bit of a let down, but susequently Angry Mob and Everything is Average Nowadays have put the Chiefs back up.
Best Returning Solo Female: KT Tunstall - not just for the ongs, but also for being hilarious on Never Mind the Buzzcocks ("Eugh! That was Hairgel!")
Best Returning Solo Male: Um....well, I can only think of one...damn...James Blunt - still, he was quite funny on Top Gear...
Should have been Annoying but Wasn't: Amy Winehouse - she should have driven me mad but for some reason the songs were just enchanting...
Irritatingly Unannoying Comeback: Take That - I was always a bit of a Boyzone girl meself, but irritatingly, Take That have come back and done good, especially Shine
Irritatingly Annoying comeback: The Spice Girls - I should celebrate, but somehow it feels hollow...
Radio Station of the Year: Virgin
Presenter of the Year: A TIE! Between Christian O'Connel off The Christian O'Connel Breakfast Show and Geoff Lloyd off The Geoff Show.
Live Show Of the Year: The Sundowe - well, it had to get something!
Band Who I Knew Of Before They Were Famous And Are Happy For: Scouting for Girls
Band Who Should Get Big in 2008: Popup

Now, I do proclaim, go forth and write your own...after all, I have no memory of say...June and also have very biased views.

Gonna Miss out Televison as I am not so much a fan. Although I do like my Heroes and my Scrubs Cheesy

Film Awards
Film of the Year: 2007 wasnt the BEST film year. Nothing pops to mind... I might think later.
Film Actor/Actress of the Year: Eva Green! I love her... and shes so damn hawt.
Most Anticipated Film of the Year: Em... Pirates 3 even though I didnt think it was all that good
Trashy Horror of the Year: 1408 - Looked Terrible at a first glance but brilliant psychological Horror. Dont worry Jackson isnt in it for very much.
Comedy/Family(ish!) Drama of the Year: ------------------
Couldn't Live Up To Expectations: -----------------
Biggest Waste of a Cinema Visit: The Golden Compass - I thoroughly did not enjoy this viewing. Terrible acting from those I expected better from, Trashy Plotline, Characters and Scenes moving past at the speed of light with their terrible pacing and FOR GOODNESS SAKE YOU DIDNT EVEN FINISH YOUR RUBBISH! (seriously yah... wheres the ending?)

Music Awards
Best New Band:
2nd Best New Band:
Best New Solo Female:
Best New Solo Male:                                  <------       ((((I will get back to these))))
Best Returning Band:
2nd Best Returning Band:
3rd Best Returning Band:
Best Returning Solo Female:
Best Returning Solo Male: James Blunt
Should have been Annoying but Wasn't: ------------------
Irritatingly Unannoying Comeback: Kylie Minogue. Not so much irritatingly because I think shes done well.
Irritatingly Annoying comeback: Gonna Agree with Nick, Spice Girls - I mean they basically slapped it in their fans face didn't they? We are only coming back for the money we arent going to actually keep this up.
Radio Station of the Year: Gotta be Radio 1
Presenter of the Year: A bit of Annie Mac for me please.
Live Performance of the Year: (Going via the Radio) Biffy Clyro with Umbrella. Brilliant.
Band Who I Knew Of Before They Were Famous And Are Happy For: The Macabees (Toothpaste kisses anyone?)
Band Who Should Get Big in 2008: BRAND NEW - I dunno if Mainstream-ism will ruin them or not though. But I do love them.,..
