  • Triss: A group of us from the LARP society I'm part of decided to put on a role-playing convention, catering to roleplayers of all types from tabletop to LARP, so we got in a whole load of traders and people promoting their groups and stuff. There's quite a big, active RP community in the north-east, so we thought we'd tap into that. So 'Nerd East' was born! Cheesy

I didn't say you didn't.

Just the way you said it sounded to me like sarcasm.

Being the son of a vet you probably do have a few animals.

I asked him about Global Warming.

They plan to get rid of normal fuel and use biofuel(under present circumstances bad idea.  Biofuel is good but how they make it is very un-enviromentally friendly) by 2010.

I asked about the future of Gaelic.

The answer I already knew but I wanted to get more info.  The Gaelic Digital channel starts up soon and the Gaelic Bord will be opening medium centers across the country.

He also said that by 2010 again they aim to have a vote on the Independence of Scotland.

He also said he had a great time at Turriff Show(I worked their)

Biofuel is an awful idea. Their first steps should be to create a surplus of crops to support the project and solve world hunger, instead of doing it without the resources and starving a hundred thousand people or so.

That, and it would help out struggling farmers. Farmers ftw!

what would make it un-enviromentally friendly would be how they got the area to grow the crop.  What will they get rid of?  I'll give you a clue, tall, brown, has green leaves.

Well the environmental impact is one thing I guess, but the human impact is a lot worse - because of the increased demand for biofuels, poor countries are growing them for the money, while their populations get even less food, compounding what is already a serious problem. If anything, biofuels should be boycotted.

Renewable energy sources are all the rage nowadays, but they are not nearly efficient enough to meet the energy demands of today. Nuclear power still remains the best option right now in my opinion, but some serious funding has to go into making renewable energy efficient enough to meet demands (my bet is on marine power - Google Pelamis for something I think has real potential) and into fusion research. Once we can get more energy out of fusion than we put into it (without breaking the First Law of Thermodynamics, obviously) then our energy needs will be more than accounted for.
