Tired of being nothing but a reminder of his dead little sister, Tyler takes a suicidal leap from the roof of his school and arrives in a crumbling Purgatory on the brink of war. Ragged wings burst from his back, transforming him into a Mori: a grey-winged soul that survives by collecting the dead.

Mori have always kept out of the war between Heaven and Hell, but the flock is splintering and choosing sides. The never-ending war is thrown off balance, and angels and demons start slaughtering Mori as a warning not to join the fray. New arrivals like Tyler make easy targets.

Narrowly escaping an angelic murder attempt, Tyler makes a powerful and vengeful new enemy. But his soul is tied to the lives of the family and friends he left behind, and if he's damned by the angel the consequences for them will be deadly.

He'll have to master flying, fighting and his new powers over dying souls if he wants to survive and see his sister again.
