What’s Up Wednesday, the weekly blog post I’ve been part of for two years now, is coming to a close and I am CRUSHED you guys. I met a lot of great people through WUW, and I hope to still keep tabs on them regardless of this change in times (the Feedly RSS reader is great for keeping the blogs I follow in order, it replaced Google Reader for me a while back).
Thank you, Jaime and Erin, for organizing this blog hope for so long and doing such a beautiful job of it. You ladies rock.
I’m going to keep doing my Wednesday updates, under the new moniker of Writing Wednesdays. If anyone else wants to join me, I’d welcome the company!
What I’m Reading
I powered through S.L. Huang’s ZERO SUM GAME, a really fantastic thriller about an assassin-for-hire who kills people using her incredible knowledge of maths.
I’m TERRIBLE at maths, but I really loved this story — it’s action-packed, filled with some killer twists and turns, and it never got overly mathematical or confusing for the numerically illiterate like myself.
Also, it was wonderful to see an “unlikeable” female character (i loved her, but she definitely breaks the mold and S.L. has discussed this.)
Cas Russell is good at math. Scary good.
I’ve also been reading Horrible Histories: “SCOTLAND” as part of some research into Scottish history. I love these books — they’re great fun, quick overviews of history for adults and kids alike, and they do some fantastic work encouraging interest in history. Also, they’re brilliantly funny and cover some important divides.
What I’m Writing
What Works For Me
Sharing my progress, my rambling thoughts, and my life events here on the blog is what works for me — it keeps me inspired, keeps me connect to you lovely lot, and keeps me accountable.
Which is why I don’t plan on stopping any time soon, and I’ll be figuring out a new way to keep up this regular updates.
What Else I’ve Been Up To
You’re just here for the cute animal photos really, aren’t you? It’s okay. Me too.

Hi EmmaMaree of the wet and windy Highlands! I’m popping over from Janet’s blog. It’s nice to meet you and I guess I’ll be looking for you at the other blog. btw, I lived and worked on an Island for a couple of years (Iona) and finally made it back to visit last year, including friends in Bunessan.

Lovely to meet you Lisa, and I’ll definitely keep an eye out for you over at Janet’s wonderful abode! :D Iona is absolutely magiiiicaall. I haven’t been there in a long time, I hope to see it again soon. Do you have a blog or website?
Lisa Bodenheim says
only a facebook page at the moment. After the encouragement I received (unexpectedly) one day at Janet’s blog and looking at everyone’s blogs this weekend, I’m highly motivated to start one!
EMaree says
Oh, please do! I love finding out about people from their websites, it’s such a fascinating experience. Even if you don’t want to blog, it’s nice to have a homepage to call your own.

Hello, Emma, I’m visiting from The Shark’s blog. Just wanted to stop by and wave a paw to you and Mac!
I envy you. I didn’t get to see the eclipse today, it was way too cloudy.

Hi Emma, hopping over from the Reef.
It’s refreshing to read that someone else likes to read about an unlikable female character. I’m getting tired of the perfect virgin Cinderella-type. Why not start your own WUW blog?
EMaree says
Thanks Angie, I think I will! Just need to pull my socks up and get started.

Hi Emma! I love the format of these posts, what a great idea!
I’m also popping by to say hi from Janet’s. This has made me very jealous of you – I couldn’t love Scotland more. I’m hoping to come back one day and bring my boys, but from the other side of the world it’s prohibitively expensive, alas. One day!

So that’s what a ferret looks like. I think they are illegal where I live.

Popping over from Janet’s blog (belatedly…I finally have time to catch up!).
I’ve only visited your part of the world briefly, but it captured my heart. Your sweet pets and life updates are fantastic. Glad to have discovered your blog via Janet!
