It’s an Unexpectedly Sunny Day

The weather has taken a weirdly summer-y turn, hasn’t it? *stares out the window distrustfully*

What I’m Reading

Batman: The Long HalloweenAdaptationThe 5th WaveNo Matter How I Look at It, It's You Guys' Fault I'm Not Popular!, Vol. 2
Spider-Man: ReignThor: God of Thunder, Vol. 1: The God ButcherThor: God of Thunder, Vol. 2: Godbomb

I had a “tea and comics” weekend last Saturday (Sunday was planned for it too, until I fell ill). It was great fun, and I might have to repeat it next weekend.

I also finally finish THE 5TH WAVE, and then read Malinda Lo’s ADAPTION. I thought I might be a bit burnt out on YA sci-fi but it was a surprisingly fun read. A fast-paced X Files inspired thrill ride with really good diversity and a fun parent-daughter relationship.

What I’m Writing

I posted my writing goals yesterday for the editing-focused month of March, so I’m working hard at the scene outline goal just now. It’s going well! I think I’m about done, finally!

Then it’s on to a tense rewrite, and then into the heavy lifting of starting to pull the story into its proper shape…

What Inspires Me

Jamie’s new What’s Up Wednesday badges are SO CUTE. I just can’t deal with the adorableness.

Also I went for a driving lesson yesterday which went really well, and that’s quite inspiring! It’s been a long time since I’ve actually *had fun* driving and it’s nice to have that feeling back again.

What Else I’ve Been Up To

Running Running Running Running…

I’m slowly getting better at this jogging business, and it takes me off the beaten track onto some cool local routes, which is a nice bonus. Lots of quiet treks through the woods, by the sea, alongside rivers and running along in the sunlight.

It’s a very nice way to spend my afternoons.

  1. It’s refreshing learning to drive. I’m glad you enjoyed it! And your reading weekend sounds cool (not the sick part, get well soon)!

  2. Congrats with the progress on your writing goals, Emma! :)

My dad used to say that other drivers sucked the fun out of driving for him. I suppose with the right car, and the right environment, and the right company, driving can be fun. When you do it every day for 20 years, it kind of loses its attraction. I certainly remember being a teenager and thinking how cool it would be to be able to get in a car and go ANYWHERE–Birmingham, London, Liverpool… maybe even Scotland! :) It would be nice to recapture that sense of wonder and exploration when getting into a car–even if it’s just for that 10 minute jaunt to work. May you never lose it, Emma.

Have a great week with your March goals!

  3. I’m so glad you like the buttons! The robot one looks great on your blog. :-)

You’re so organized with your writing goals, which is fantastic. I try to be (I’m a total planner), but lately I’ve kind of been terrible at it. I honestly think it’s the best way to really get anything done, though.

You’ve reminded me that I need to get behind the wheel again and get comfortable enough to go for the driving test. Again. It’s been about 5+ years since I last drove and I was awful then lol. Maybe now that it’s nicer out… Have a wonderful week, Emma!

  4. The new buttons are great, but I totally forgot to use one ^^; Epic fail.

I’m going to pick up Adaptation next week. Have you read Ash? I’m not usually one for fairy tales, but I really loved that book.

Wow, go Team Emma! Jog, jog, joooooooog!

  5. I married a man who hates to drive so I’m ALWAYS driving and that can get annoying at times, but most of the time, I love to drive! Especially when it’s nice out and I can blast music. It’s relaxing.

  6. WOW look at all that running! Good for you! Sounds like you have some beautiful places to run nearby as well, which is a plus. I used to really enjoy running, but then we moved to this farm-saturated area, and I have to say, the fields and lack of trees are slightly depressing to run by! :-p

And I LOVED The 5th Wave–like Independence Day only better, ha ha.

    Happy writing!

  7. Having a good time driving is excellent. I need to get back behind the wheel and take my drivers’ test…again. It’s not easy not having a license when you live in the country and there’s nowhere to go that doesn’t require a car. I love driving, I just hate other drivers.

Well done with the running! Have a good week!

  8. The new WUW buttons are indeed so adorable. I love them all, and will have a hard time choosing on Wednesday.
Good luck on your revisions! Remember, just put your head down and charge through.
