What I’m Reading
I’ve been hopping from book to book lately, unable to settle on anything. So I’m going to start reading a book I know I’ll love: Laura Lam’s SHADOWPLAY.

What I’m Writing
I’ve pottered through 10k of a plotbunny currently codenamed “FAERIE KILLERS” about two ladies who cross every corner of Scotland hunting down and killing the cold, ruthless fae before the fae can kill them. It’s fun. I have hopes for it, but for now the plan is to get back on track with editing before the allure of shiny new ideas pulls me too far.
But first, I need to get through my coursework for the week.
What Inspires Me
I’m still living a life held together by episodes of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA in all its magnificence, but I also need to reference the awesome trailer for series 2 of Hannibal and the full version of the amazing song they use.

What Else I’ve Been Up To
It’s my fiance (Dave’s) birthday today, so I’m looking forward to celebrating it with a meal with friends this evening.
I’m also bogged down with music coursework, so I’ve got to keep my nose to the grindstone for the rest of the week. Wish me luck!

Oooh, awesome idea! I can see why you can’t get down to revising when you’ve got such an epic shiny new idea :D
BTW, you should check out today’s Teefury ;)
…. I have *no* need for more t-shirts, and yet, I NEED IT.
I thought as much…
Hope you guys have a great time tonight! (and best of luck with your editing)
Thank you Elodie!
Faerie killers? Sounds awesome! I know the lure of a shiny new idea all too well (that’s what led to my recently-completed WIP, though, so these plotbunnies are sometimes worth following!). Best of luck with the editing and I hope you have fun tonight! :)
Thank you Emma!
… and this is why I don’t start a SNI while working on a WIP–the temptation to get sucked in is too great for me. May you find the inner resources to persevere with edits, despite the fact that “Faerie Killers” sounds such fun. :)
I hope you and Dave have a wonderful time tonight, and that the music coursework is a breeze to complete. Have a great week, Emma!
Thank you Colin! The coursework is stressy but at least it’s only Saturday. :)
I love that cover! So much just leaps right out at you. I might have to check out this series, since it sounds different than anything else I’ve ever read. I’ve succumbed to the lure of the shiny new ideas a few times now, but it’s always nice to come back to something further along. That said, your Faerie Killers idea sounds fascinating. Have a wonderful week, Emma!
Please do check out Pantomime (the first book) and Shadowplay if you get the chance! It’s *such* an important YA novel, and Laura really doesn’t get enough press for it. There’s nothing else out there in the genre that tackles intersex elements while still allowing the intersex character to have their own life, drive the plot and be a strong main character. And it’s her debut! Not many debuts tackle such big issues.
Laura’s one of the loveliest published authors I know and few things make me happier than seeing her book gain popularity among LGBT YA fans and fantasy fans.
I really need to read Pantomime – Laura is so lovely!
She is! It’s a great read. :)
okay, Faerie Killers sounds freaking awesome! I love that cover for Shadow Play, has be thoroughly intrigued.
Haha, half of my replies to the comments so far are ‘read Shadowplay!’ but yeah, Shadowplay is definitely worth reading. It’s the sequel to PANTOMIME which is the best starting point.
Faerie killers sound fantastic! I haven’t seen any of Battlstar Galactica but I’ve been told I need to fix that. It’s on my list of TV shows to watch if I ever have any free time to watch them.
Battlestar is sooo good. Definitely worth watching if you get the free time. :)
The pull of the SNI can be strong. Good luck getting your revisions done with the Faerie Killers standing by eager to drag you into their realm.
Have a great week!
Thank you Kate! :)
Your plot bunny sounds fascinating!
Thank you Sarah!
Hiya
I also love Battlstar Galactica. My hubby and I watch the whole series at least once a year. Well so far. It’s a great series.
The book cover for Shadowplay is really cool.
Angel
Thank you for visiting, Angel!
Good luck! And have fun at dinner :)
I cannot wait for Hannibal either! It’s such an amazingly plotted story and the acting is fantastic.
It is! I’m really looking forward to its return.
That cover is beautiful and intriguing, and the blurb about Pantomime (I’m assuming the first book in this series?) has hooked me. Looking it up on Goodreads right this moment.
Pantomime is the first book, indeed. :) I love them both, they’re something quite unique within YA.
Faerie Killers sounds like an awesome new story, thinking about all the new and wonderful stories youre writing for us makes me so excited, I really can’t wait to read them! And I know I’m kinda late with this, but please wish Dave a happy birthday for me.
I will do, Roan, and thank you so much for the encouragement.

Happy Birthday to Dave!
Your mention of the song from the Hannibal trailer reminds me of my husband – he’s forever pausing movies and shows to look up the music :D
Heh, I’m guilty of looking up the soundtrack lists as soon as I’m done an episode. :) It’s good fun. Thank you for visiting, Lily.
