Today, for their Road Trip Wednesday question for bloggers, YA Highway asked: About how many books do you read in a year? Do you want to read more? Or, less?
This year, I set myself a Goodreads Reading Challenge to read 35 books. I’ve already passed that, despite a year that’s been (sometimes) hectic and (always) busy.
Looking at the responses from my blog friends, though, this achievement feels a bit low. Next year, I’m raising the bar to 50 books! And according to my big 2013 to-do list, which I’ll be posting soon, next year will be focussing on the for review pile, the personal to-read pile, comics, short stories and some non-fiction.
I can’t believe this year is almost over. It’s been a good one, all things considered and weighed up. I’m hoping 2013 goes just as well as this year, and I can’t wait to see what surprises it brings.
35 is already a great number! I think we all have different schedules…I commute a lot and I get to sit in the train which means when I´m not drafting, I´m reading :D That gives me a lot of time to read :D
Thirty-five is not a shabby number at all. There have been years when I’ve not read much more–or even that much. And as you said, this year has been hectic for you. I’m surprised I’ve managed to read as much as I have due to all the distractions in my life. I credit my reading count in part to the fact that I’ve read some great books that grabbed me at page 1 and wouldn’t let me go until I reached “THE END.” It’s a shame those books tend to be the ones I read the quickest. :)
There have been plenty of years when I’d have killed to read 35 books! Definitely all of HS and college. 50 is a nice number to shoot for–just about a book a week. I think that may be what I put into the Goodreads Challenge widget for 2013–I hope I can push myself to read more, but I don’t want to let myself fall below that unless I have another lifestyle change (as I did midway through 2012) that drastically messes with my reading schedule. I’m so happy to be back to reading like a lunatic that I don’t want to let it get away from me again :)
Thirty-five books is great! I never used to read that many until I started writing seriously and followed all these blogs. Now I spend time reading instead of TV to catch up on the books I want to get to. Goodreads makes it so easy to track…and find new books!
