Okay, did somebody put something in the water last night? Was it a full moon? Because I’m SO TIRED auuughhh.
Apparently there’s a new moon tonight, but I’m not nearly werewolf enough to understand if that’s why nobody’s sleeping. The height of my lunar knowledge is that sometimes I look at what the sea’s doing, shake my fist at the moon & yell “YOU!”.

What I’m Reading
Hopping erratically between beta reading, Chuck Wendig’s The Cormorant, and comics. I’m not very focused this week.
What I’m Writing
I’m chipping away at BROKEN THINGS slowly but surely.
I’m itching to get this WIP done now: a certain shiny new idea best described as a genderbent Scottish Supernatural is scratching at my brain.
What Inspires Me
I’m playing Transistor right now, which has a beautiful trailer, beautiful art, BEAUTIFUL EVERYTHING.
I’m so in love with this game. The studio’s first game, BASTION, was my favorite game last year: beautiful art, memorable music, and short enough that it doesn’t impact on my writing time the way a 30+ hour JRPG would.
TRANSISTOR has all of these plus points, but with a polite sword boyfriend as one of the main characters. It’s SO GOOD.
What Else I’ve Been Up To
Driving is still going well — I’m reaching a nice, steady stage of uneventful lessons now, and I’m at about the half-way point of the UK average of 47 instructor lessons.
I’m back into my Zombies, Run! running again, too, after a break. It’s good to be back.
Apart from that, it’s all your usual sleep-deprived business here in Emmaland. I hope everyone’s doing well, I’m looking forward to doing my rounds of the blogs today!

I had no idea I needed a genderbent Scottish Supernatural in my life, but apparently I do. Good luck with the rest of your WIP!
Have a great week! :)

Thank you Jess!

Hi, Emma! I haven’t been sleeping well at all either. I think it’s more because of everything going on and all my to-do lists…my mind is going a million miles a second all the time! But I’ll take blaming the New Moon, if she doesn’t mind. ;)
Wishing you good sleep this week!
Happy reading and writing! from Laura Marcella @ Wavy Lines

I definitely need your WIP in my life, like, five minutes ago, Emma.
Ahhh, Transistor looks incredible! That art, that sword, that everything! *scrambles to find a copy to buy*
Also, congrats on the halfway point to Driverdom! It’s all downhill from here :D

OK… that’s an interesting premise for your SNI, Emma. I can’t say I’m that familiar with “Supernatural,” but I think if you threw that out as a Twitter pitch, you’d generate interest. :)
“Polite sword boyfriend”–sounds like a new take on the classic chivalrous knight. The kind of guy who opens the car door for you, pulls your seat out for you at the restaurant, then bows to the thug at the next table who insulted you before decapitating him. :)
Well done with the driving lessons! I can’t honestly say I think it’s overkill to have that many lessons. We should have much stricter standards in the US, especially for teen drivers. We take driving for granted too much, and hence lose respect for the vehicle and the road. I think this is partly why we see so many fatal road accidents, especially among young drivers.
Have a great week! :)

I am so tempted to upgrade to an iPhone next month just to get this zombie run app. I would honestly be motivated by it to get more active and get into running.
And OMG Scottish Supernatural! Hell yes to that!
EMaree says
If you need a cheaper alternative, Android phones fully support Zombies, Run! too. :)
Emma Adams says
I’ve been tired all day, too. *yawn* Possibly because it was raining noisily all night.
I’d totally read a genderbent Scottish Supernatural!
Glad the driving/running/gaming is going well! :)
EMaree says
I hope you’ve managed to get more sleep! (Because I’m a slow butt and took ages to reply to this comment.)
Melanie Stanford says
47 instructor lessons? Is that a joke or are you being serious?!
I swear, I’m tired every wednesday. I don’t know if it’s just a middle of the week slump, but I seriously drag every time Wednesday hits. Boo.
EMaree says
Not a joke, I linked to the source right next to the number. :)
Middle-of-the-week slump makes a lotta sense.
Jaime Morrow says
Love your “genderbent Scottish Supernatural” idea! You should totally get on that!
EMaree says
Thank you! I’m hoping to get to it very very soon…

That Castiel gif might be the best thing I’ve ever seen.
Wriiiiite the SNI!!!! Doooo iiiiit!
I’m wearing my Enabler t-shirt today ;)
EMaree says
It was the perfect GIF, I was so happy to find it in my random trawls for a fitting GIF.
Kim says
genderbent Scottish Supernatural? That sounds remarkable. Really, really remarkable. Transistor sounds pretty great too — I love the music in that trailer and the artwork looks fabulous.
EMaree says
It’s an amazing game! And thank you, I’m excited to work on this shiny new idea.
Hannah says
Oh I’m so looking forward to playing Transistor…
Genderbent Scottish Supernatural! Do it! Somewhere in my Google Drive I have the plans for a lost and forgotten Supernatural fanfic which parallels the main plotline but follows hunter sisters in Britain, who have to deal with monsters and spirits far more ancient and unpredictable than Americans with their baby country… Needless to say, there is so much potential mythology to use in Scotland to make that sort of thing a really fun concept to play with! :D
EMaree says
Oh, there really is! I’m focusing on Celtic faerie mythology for this idea because they’re one of the biggest Celtic creatures (to my mind) and a lot of modern spins on fae miss their viciousness and inhumanity. But there’s SO MUCH material to work with in British mythology, it’s great fun.
EMaree says
Also, that fanfic sounds AMAZING
