Today, for their Road Trip Wednesday question for bloggers, YA Highway asked: What would your memoir be called?
Oh, sweet, time for my ego to briefly shine – I’ve got this one planned out already. I’m a long way away from being ‘memoir’ level interesting (not enough excitement and adventure yet, and definitely not enough explosions and high-speed chases), but when I do I’ve got the title prepared:
Eight-Legged Demons.
See also: my imaginary band name. I actually have an expansive roster of imaginary bands that pop out throughout my stories.
See also: I keep over-thinking this and worrying about how awkward a word ‘Legged’ is. Leg-ged. Ugh. WHY ARE YOU SUCH A TERRIBLE WORD. But as of yet I’ve been unable to find any word to replace the infernal ‘legged’ without destroying the imagery.
The title is a nod to both inner demons and my arachnophobia. Frickin’ spiders, man. I just can’t handle them.
Suzanne says
Nice! Ever considered making that imaginary band more real?
E.Maree says
Oh, definitely – I’ve had many daydreams of being a rockstar. But unfortunately my musical abilities are firmly in lyrics, singing, and website design/promotion. Can’t get very far when I’m unable to compose a track or play an instrument.
Miss Cole says
Oh, I feel your eight-legged pain my friend.
E.Maree says
They are just the worst things. :(
Bess Weatherby says
Oooh! Creepy! Would definitely intrigue me.
Colin says
That is a good memoir title. Intriguing. It sounds like a novel, which makes your life sound even more interesting!
E.Maree says
Glad you like it, Colin!
A. K. Fotinos-Hoyer says
yikes – I hate spiders too!
E.Maree says
They’re eeevil.
Robin Moran says
Oh god, I have a terrible fear of spiders too. It’s my worst one. If I see one, no matter what size, I just compeletely freeze up. One landed on me once and I went into a sobbing, hysterical wreck. I can’t deal with them at all.
E.Maree says
Oh, I know EXACTLY what you’re talking about. I’ve never had panic attacks in my life, until my face collided with a spider. Cue panic attack and now I lapse into panic attacks easily when faced with them.
Jaime Morrow says
Ew! I hate spiders too. I like to refer to my basement as Shelob’s Lair or Aragog’s Lair due to the chunky spiders I’ve smushed down there. Ick. Would be a great title for a memoir, though. That would definitely grab people’s attention :D
E.Maree says
That’s the best name for a basement ever. And you’re brave for smushing them, I can never step on them!
Liz Parker says
I love this.
Roan says
Hmmm…. I’m a little late with this comment I guess…
Anyway…
I used to be afraid of spiders too, untill I figured they ate my worst enemies: mosquitoes! And anyone or thing that hates them/eats them is my best friend, no matter how scary they are ;p.
E.Maree says
That’s good logic! Luckily, we don’t get mosquitoes up here, just midges. If we has mozzies I’d probably reconsider my fear…
